On February 8, 2020, a group of nursing students from Northwest University (Seattle, USA) arrived at the Kazakh-American Free University.
This is already the 9th group, which comes from overseas to Ust-Kamenogorsk and undergoes training and educational practice at KAFU and hospitals in the city.
All graduate students at the Northwest University of Seattle Faculty of Nursing must undergo compulsory international practice, lasting 1 month, in one of the proposed countries (the list of countries other than Kazakhstan includes, for example, Georgia, Taiwan, India, Kenya, Mexico and other).
All students leave for 1-month internship in February before completing their final semester and proceeding to the final exams. 6 students came to us this year, who undergo practical training in medical institutions of Ust-Kamenogorsk from February 10 to March 2.
The current group includes faculty teacher and team leader Danette Ver Woert and six students - Ayako Kasai, Christin Seo, Erica Wyatt, Kursten Patrick, Sarah Joy Legat, Meghan Hills.
The program includes international internship, cultural exchange, a meeting with the administration of KAFU, guest participation in the educational process. Acquaintance with the patient care system and organization of the work of paramedical personnel in Kazakhstan takes place on the basis of the East Kazakhstan Regional Hospital and City Hospital No. 4, which cordially welcomes our foreign trainees and share their experiences. Foreign students are accompanied by student translators from KAFU. In addition to practice in hospitals, girls will visit the Ust-Kamenogorsk center for the provision of special social services, the Hospice "Zhandauren", sports and cultural events of the city.
On February 21, at KAFU, an open seminar on the topic "Professional Ethics of a Nurse" will be held for paramedical personnel of city hospitals and students of medical colleges. Undergraduates of the Faculty of Nursing at Northwest University (USA) will share their impressions that they have received during their stay in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
