The results of the Republican Online Essay Competition



On April 20, 2020, as part of the events of the KAFU Science and Creativity Week, we summed up the results of the English essay competition among university students and colleges on the topic “If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade: Positive Sides of Coronavirus Quarantine” The competition was organized by the KAFU Department of Foreign Languages.
The event was held from April 16 to April 20, 2020. Student participants were invited to reflect on the positive consequences of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, reassess values, and think about possible personal and professional development in a difficult time of social isolation.60 works from 5 educational institutions - the Kazakh-American Free University, East Kazakhstan State University, East Kazakhstan Technical University, KAFU Higher College and the Karaganda State University named after Academician A. Buketov were admitted to the competition.  The active participation of Karaganda State University students in this competition allowed us to change its status from regional to republican. When summing up the results, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Yulia V. Novitskaya, spoke about the procedure for holding the contest and the most common and interesting ideas of the essay. Associate Professor Valentina Vladimirovna Gersonskaya talked about typical mistakes made by the participants of the competition, and made recommendations for writing an essay in the future.
Competition results: 1st place — Viktoria Vykhodtseva
2nd place — Anastasia Ivanishina
3rd place — Yerkezhan Kalieva, Amarzhargal Bayanmunkh,  Nana Nigmanova.
According to the results of the competition, several nominations were awarded to those students whose works did not win prizes, but were awarded by a team of experts:

ViolettaRomaniuk -“For the best organization of presentation ”;
Alena Dzhafarova -“ For the eloquence and expressiveness of speech ”;
Anastassia Ikonnikova -“For the sense of humor and irony ”;
