Workshops of David C. Houghton, Ph.D, Dean of Paul Dickinson College of Business

Workshops «Modern Trends in Business Education», «Assessment and Continuous Improvement in Educational Programs», «Marketing Strategy: Consumers Oriented Decision Making» were held in KAFU, lecturer - David C. Houghton, professor of OBU, Dean of Paul Dickinson College of Business, Ph.D.

During the first workshop, professor analyzed problems in business sphere, talked about strong and weal sides of higher education, control methods and ways to support students, implemented in the USA. Mr. Houghton shared information about Oklahoma and his own university, which provides education on 86 majors for Bachelor and Master Students. 

Seond workshop was dedicated to criteria of students` knowledge assessment. The audience asked questions. Part of them was about university accreditation in America. David told about teachers qualification required, gave examples on accreditation procedure. Issues, concerned teachers degrees, were discussed in comparison to Kazakhstan. Professor emphasized, that all professors in America are to publish results of their researchers, during 7 years atleast 5 articles should be issued, 2 of them must in prestige scientific journals. This is the main aspect in major accreditation for the next 7 years. Another important factor is state order. Mr. Houghton also talked about distant education in the USA, teaching methods, and system of teachers selection.

Third workshop was dedicated to main marketing strategies in America, and goods advertising. Questions about higher education promotion, brand implementation for advertising to university entrants, marketing strategy for students bodies consolidation in the USA attracted attention of the audience.

The nature of problems, existing in higher education in America, doesn`t differ from those, existing in Kazakhstan. This very fact proves that the whole world is in the middle of globalization, and problems, provoked by world economic crises, are relevant for all countries. Among other problems, David mentioned demographic crises, so the lack of population influenced on number of students. He suggested that discounts and credits helped attrsct more students.

Workshops were attended by teachers from KAFU, EKSU, EKSTU, Herzen Russian State Pedagogic University (Saint-Petersburg), KAFU College, Economic College.

All teachers received certificates of Carrier Development Center.
